Safe House 2014 Update 04

Three weeks and one day to go and more figures are rolling off the painting table. This week we have some more residents of Spring County, our campaign's rural/suburban setting: The Army. These chaps represent a handful of the soldiers stationed at Camp Hemsworth, a military compound and field hospital set up in the wake of the zombie outbreak. The condition of the camp is as yet undetermined (you will have to wait until the campaign reports from the event) but our survivors will no doubt require the use of it's substantial resources before the story ends.

Without further ado...

Being all they can be.

Sergeant Coombs

Corporal Harris

Private Kowalski (there's always got to be one)

Private Jones

The miniatures are from Black Scorpion Miniatures' US Marines range but they serve just as well as US Army characters.

For anyone interested in replicating the camouflage pattern, a simulation of the US Army's standard issue ARPAT(ACU) digital camo, a tutorial can be found HERE. I played around with the technique a bit but the paints were all as in the tutorial.

That's all, folks! Apart from the Safe House JustGiving page, of course.

    1. Thanks, dude. It's a really simple tutorial and although my results are very different from those shown there, I was still pleased.

  2. Great figures, Simon. I should know as I have all of this range. Your camo pattern is very well done, and very different to mine. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you, Bryan. I do love this range of minis and they're very well cast. I am so used to the absence of air bubbles in these models that one got away from me on the SAW gunner's ammo bag.

  3. That's very nice camouflage! I hope it's not too good and you lose the miniatures :-) .

  6. Great job as usual!
I have to say I wouldn't guess which camo is it, but it still came out nice. I like large patches.

    1. It's just an illusion to emulate worn ARPAT BDUs. Digital camouflage painted in 28mm is more of a suggestion than realistic. Like painting eyes. ACU is really bright when new but wears and fades very quickly. Interestingly, this is by design as the old fatigues were so rugged that they ended up recirculating into foreign forces. Uniforms are no use if the enemy wears the same one so the new BDU was born. And it's s**t. Lol.
